Support for Mine Action

In 2011, Austria contributed €1,990,000 (US$2,772,270) in mine action funding,[1] an increase of almost 50% in equivalent dollar terms compared to 2010. The largest contribution went to Somalia (650,000/$905,515). Austria provided support to mine action through UNICEF, UNDP, ICRC, the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining, the UN Voluntary Trust Fund for Assistance in Mine Action and three NGOs.

In 2011, more than half (54%) of Austria’s contributions went to clearance operations in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Libya, and Somalia. Austria also made contributions to victim assistance in Cambodia, Ethiopia, and Lebanon.

Austria contributed €35,000 (US$48,759) towards the universalization of the Convention on Cluster Munitions through its support of the Cluster Munition Coalition and the Second Meeting of States Parties in Beirut in September 2011.

Austria’s total contribution to mine action in 2007–2011 totaled €7.54 million (more than $10.5 million), with an annual contribution averaging some €1.5 million ($2.1 million).
