Support for Mine Action
Since 2008, the government of Eritrea has supported the logistical and medical supplies for the demining teams operating under the Eritrean Demining Authority (EDA), as well as paying the salaries of two of the teams, a contribution valued at approximately US$257,000 per year.[1]
In 2011, UNDP in Eritrea provided $121,253 from its core funding sources to support victim assistance.[2] While the government of Eritrea is unable to support a sufficient number of EDA clearance teams to meet its Article 5 deadline by 1 February 2015 at current levels of land release, it has persistently refused to accept the return of international demining NGOs since their expulsion in 2005.[3]
